Black Lives Always Mattered! (BLAM!) Website Launch
In celebration of the founding of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History by Dr. Carter G. Woodson on this date in 1915
In 1915, Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life & History, now called the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). In celebration on the day of this anniversary, the Blockson Collection is launching the BLAM! (Black Lives Always Mattered!: Hidden African American Philadelphians in the Twentieth Century) website, and we invite you to join us.
BLAM!, a graphic novel, is a Blockson Collection project supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. BLAM! brings African American history in Philadelphia to life with a focus on 14 historical figures, including W.E.B. Du Bois, Cecil B. Moore, and Marian Anderson.
In this virtual launch, curators, historians, artists, web designers, and others involved in the project will dig deep into the creative process, looking at how the project evolved while providing a captivating way to learn about the "hidden figures" of African American history and their invaluable contributions to Philadelphia. The program will be moderated by Malik L. Boyd, CEO of Dashuri World, Inc.; executive producer and host of Heart of the City Radio; and TV political analyst.
This program is part of the Black Lives Always Mattered! public program series at the Blockson Collection, supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.
This program will be presented via Zoom. On the day of the program, use this link to join: https://temple.zoom.us/j/95268155836.
