Midday Arts Series: An Afternoon of Poetry and Music with Sharon Rhinesmith and David Moolten

Join us for a reading by poet David Moolten and a performance by singer Sharon Rhinesmith. We are grateful for this husband and wife team sharing their talents with us! This program is presented in collaboration with the Intellectual Heritage program.

David Moolten is the author of three books of poetry, Plums & Ashes (Northeastern University, 1994), which won the Samuel French Morse Poetry Prize, Especially Then (David Robert Books, 2005), and Primitive Mood (Truman State University, 2009) which won the T.S. Eliot Prize. A current manuscript, Heavier Than Sky, was a finalist for this year’s Gival Press Poetry Award. He is also the recipient of a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grant, a Pushcart Prize, and poems of his have appeared widely in journals such as Poetry, The American Poetry Review, and The Threepenny Review. A physician, Dr. Moolten lives, writes, and practices in Philadelphia.

Sharon Rhinesmith, mezzo-soprano, is a frequent performer of oratorio, opera, and recital. Her solo performances include appearances with The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Music Center and The Philadelphia Singers at Merkin Hall in New York. Other solo appearances include performances with The Music Group of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Chorus, The Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra/Camerata Singers, The Princeton Pro Musica, and The Bach Aria Festival of New York. Sharon received her Bachelor and Master’s of Music degrees in Voice Performance from Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music. She is currently on the voice faculty at Settlement Music School and Temple University Music Preparatory in Philadelphia and Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA.
