Using Open Textbooks in the Classroom

Using Open Textbooks in the Classroom

Did you know that since 1978, the cost of textbooks has increased 810% or 3x the inflation rate? Nationally, students are told to budget $1,200-$1,300 a year for books. That’s a lot of money! One way faculty can make their courses more affordable for students is by assigning an open textbook. Open textbooks are digital books that are free to read, download, and print.

In this workshop, we’ll provide an introduction to the world of open educational resources. We’ll discuss how to find high quality open textbooks in your discipline, and show you how these books can be customized to suit the needs of your particular class.
