AUTHOR TALK: Dr. Ife Williams “Police Brutality: A Philadelphia Story”

Dr. Ife Williams’ book, Police Brutality: A Philadelphia Story (2023)tells a centuries-long history of policing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania through the 1980s. Using Philadelphia as a case study, Dr. Williams’ book examines numerous themes within policing, such as historical-cultural sentiment, the role of city officials in the exacerbation of abuse, federal litigation, and civil activism aimed at curbing police violence. 

Dr. Ife Williams is a Political Science and Africana History Professor at Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Williams is the recipient of a 2022 Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowship for her immense digital humanities project mapping slave revolts and resistance against enslavement across the African Diaspora over a 200-year period. Dr. Wiliams is the past President of the African Heritage Studies Association (2018-2021) and a Fulbright scholar who has represented the United States in Tanzania and Barbados.

Our programs are geared toward a general audience and are open to all, including Temple students, faculty, staff, alumni, neighbors, and friends. Registration is encouraged.
