Beyond the Notes: Hispanic Heritage Month Concert

Beyond the Notes: Hispanic Heritage Month Concert

Join us for the first Beyond the Notes recital of the 2024–2025 season as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with songs from across the Spanish-speaking world. Experience the diversity of songwriting by composers from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, and Spain performed by Boyer students, alumni, and friends.

This program features music from the Spanish zarzuela tradition, a style of musical theater dating back to the Baroque era featuring song, spoken word, and dance. Although it originated in Spain, zarzuela spread throughout the Spanish-speaking world, particularly in Cuba, Mexico, and the Philippines. We will also hear examples of art song and popular music, making this a diverse musical potpourri that shouldn’t be missed!

Singers: Megnot Toggia, Paulina Cevallos, Roberto Guevara, Evgeniya Khomutova, and Daniela Martinez

Pianist: Yoni Levyatov

Light refreshments served. Boyer recital credit given.
