Pat Boy Live at Temple!

Please join us for a performance and talk with Yucatec Maya rapper Pat Boy.  

Pat Boy is an internationally acclaimed Yucatec Maya rapper who music was featured in the recent Marvel film Wakanda Forever. Pat Boy will perform, and answer questions about how he is using music to fight prejudice, celebrate Indigenous identity, and promote the Mayan language. 

The event will be moderated by Dr. Christina Baker (Spanish and Portuguese) and Temple students who have studied abroad in the Mexican state of Yucatán. About Pat Boy: In 2009, Pat Boy (Jesús Pat Chablé) began his solo career, making music in his native language, Yucatec Maya. Blending genres like rap, pop, and reggaetón, his unique sound brings attention to the Maya language. Pat Boy chose his stage name because in the language of his ancestors, "Pat" refers to the action of shaping or creating something new. It also pays tribute to the social fighter Jacinto Pat. "Boy" represents his desire to share the creative contributions of Maya-speaking communities with the world.
