Beyond the Notes: A Jazz Suite Performed Live!

Join Jay Epstein and his quartet as they perform live and discuss his new original work, SCENES, a jazz suite. This event features some of the most creative and talented jazz musicians in the city today as we bring to life the flowing themes of the suite combined with improvised ideas that tie everything together. In this intimate setting, you'll get the chance to connect with the full musical experience and learn about how jazz and improvised music can be orchestrated and arranged into this format. 

SCENES is a new jazz suite stemming from a multi-year composition project which follows a recurring theme that shows up in different ways throughout the work. It represents how we progress through life, discover ourselves, and go through change. In this event, we will perform the entire suite, pausing to talk about inspiration, recurring themes, compositional techniques, and more. The suite consists of 3 sections across 10 scenes, each with its own unique character, but equally connected to what comes before and after. 

The performance will feature Madison Rast (bass), Wayne Smith Jr (drums) and Jon Katz (alto saxophone), and Jay Epstein (piano & composition).
