How Did This Neighborhood Change? Mapping Demographic Change from 1790 to Today

Social Explorer's real superpower is not current data — it is depth. Decennial census data going back to 1790, mapped.

This session shows you how to document change over time in any U.S. neighborhood: segregation and White flight, gentrification and displacement, shifting political geography. You will build a before-and-after map pair for an area you care about and export it as a figure for a paper, dissertation, or policy brief. We will also cover the problem that trips up most people doing this work — census tract boundaries change between censuses, so comparisons across decades need care.

This workshop will be offered as an online session via Zoom. You must register for this workshop to receive the Zoom link via a confirmation email. On the day of the workshop, use the link to join the session.
