Teaching with Twine: How to Create Scenario-Based Games
This workshop will introduce Twine as a tool for developing interactive, scenario-based learning experiences for education. Geared toward teacher educators, researchers, and educational practitioners, it will demonstrate how Twine can be used to create branching simulations that allow learners to make decisions, encounter consequences, and explore complex educational scenarios. Participants will learn the basics of designing and building a Twine simulation, including developing decision points, creating branching pathways, and incorporating multimedia and reflective prompts. Drawing on examples that explore technology awareness and cultural awareness in the education of children with disabilities, the workshop will also consider how simulation design can support critical reflection rather than simply reinforce “right” and “wrong” responses. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own teaching, professional learning, or research ideas and will leave with the beginnings of an interactive Twine experience they can continue to develop.
