Data Privacy: Protecting Your Data in an Online World

As more and more of our time is spent online and on digital devices, including work, research, purchases, leisure, banking, dating, and our civic and political engagement, it is increasingly important to understand how our data are collected and used, and how to protect the privacy of your data. Collecting and analyzing personal data is a big business and presents new threats to civil liberties, but most people are not aware what information they are sharing when browsing the internet or using an app on a smartphone.

This workshop will cover a variety of current issues in data privacy, like the real cost of some “free” services and consumer profiling, and strategies to protect your data both online and off.
 

This workshop will be offered as an online session via Zoom. You must register for this workshop to receive the Zoom link via a confirmation email. On the day of the workshop, use the link to join the session. Participants do not need a video camera or a microphone, but will need an audio connection to hear the instructor.
