Noisemakers! The Making of BLAM!: Behind the Scenes with BLAM Curator & Artists

Given the current state of events here in the United States and abroad, let BLAM! be your rallying cry for 2020, 2021, and beyond!

Join the Blockson Collection in a discussion about the creation of the upcoming and new “must have” original graphic novel: Black Lives Always Mattered!: Hidden African-American Philadelphia in the 20th Century. The graphic novel features illustrated, narrative profiles of 14 African Americans, who made a major impact on the shaping of the city of Philadelphia (Cecil B. Moore, Dr. Ruth Wright Hayre, and John W. Mosley, to name a few), and in some cases, the world (W.E.B. DuBois and Marian Anderson).

Meet BLAM! curator, art director and illustrator Eric Battle in conversation with amazing fellow illustrators Micheline Hess, Jamar Nicholas, Dwayne Turner and Christine Kerrick, as they discuss their visions & artistic processes, in the creation of their illustrated stories for this book.

This program is part of the Black Lives Always Mattered! public program series at the Blockson Collection, which has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.
