William Still's Birthday Celebration

William Still's Birthday Celebration

In celebration of the 200th birthday of William Still, the Blockson Collection will present a panel discussion highlighting the life and times of William Still. Panelists include Charles L. Blockson, curator emeritus, and Valerie Still. Students from the Jubilee School, led by educator Karen Falcon, will ask the panelists questions.

The program will also highlight the rich resources in the Blockson Collection covering the period of William Still’s life and times, including our website William Still, An African American Abolitionist made possible through a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities, along with our current exhibition, The Quest for Freedom and Dignity: Celebrating William Still and Harriet Tubman.

In addition, a graphic illustration by Eric Battle will be unveiled to commemorate William Still's birthday.

William Still's Birthday Celebration is supported by the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Endowment Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation.
